We run the following free drop-in events for young children:
- Weekly Rhymetime sessions for babies and young toddlers, Thursdays 10.30am - 11am and repeated 11.30am - 12noon; also every Saturday at 11:00am
- Weekly Wiggle'n'Jiggle sessions for older toddlers, every Wednesday 11am -11.30am
- Chatterbooks reading group for 7-11 years, once a month on a Monday 4pm-5pm.

Homework help clubs
These take place in the Children's Library for 9 to 11 year-olds and on Level 2 for 12 to 16 year-olds.
Specially trained helpers offer support with homework assignments. Students benefit from space to study, access to a wide selection of books, word processing and supervised internet access.
The clubs operate at these times:
- School term time: Tuesday and Thursday 4pm - 6pm, Saturday 2pm - 5pm
- Half term and Easter holidays: Monday to Saturday 2pm - 5pm
- Summer and Christmas holidays: Closed.
Careers, training and learning advice sessions
Business Information Services
Workshops are held twice a month looking at the online and printed information available for people wanting to start their own business. There is also information about free business start up courses run in the local area.
There are four reading groups for adults at the Central Library. These meet:
- The second Saturday of the month at 11am - meet at the Level 2 enquiry desk
- The second Monday of the month 6pm-7pm in the Level 2 meeting room.
- Rainbow Reading group for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender people meets at 2.30pm on Level 1 on the last thursday of the month: www.rainbowreadinggroup.org.uk
- Non-fiction reading group meet on the third Monday of the month at 1pm in the Level 2 meeting room
