Central Children’s Library Improvements

Posted on: 17th October 2016

Coming Soon...

We are delighted to announce that the Central Children’s Library will soon be improved with an exciting and bold new layout planned by the Council in partnership with Croydon Tech City, Rise Gallery and Carillion. The library will have new shelving, furniture including more flexible seating, and a wall art project. We are able to add new books to the existing stock, new IT equipment, a large flat screen for training and fun, and a new large desk hub for young people to participate in a programme of training supported by Croydon Tech City volunteers.

The key aims of this new offer are to encourage more children and young people from across the borough to join and use the library; to provide a space that creates a ‘learning can be fun’ environment; and supports improving children’s reading skills and their safe use of technology.

To allow the extensive work to be completed the children's library will be closed from Monday 21 November to Saturday 10 December. The library will re-open at 9am on Monday 12 December.

During this period a selection of children's books and access to the computers will be available on Level 1 of the Central Library. Unfortunately, we will not have space to run the usual range of children's activities during the work. You are, of course, very welcome to go along to activities at any of the other 12 libraries across the borough.

We apologise for any inconvenience but we are certain you will enjoy the new layout we have planned.
